Tanner, 48, was
acquitted of murdering his wife Emily
in 1995 when he proved that he couldn't
have committed the murder due to his
being out of town with mistress Louanne
Jenkins. Tanner founded his group in
the wake of his own trial and that of
fellow "alleged wife killer"
O.J. Simpson, who didn't cheat on his
wife but was nonetheless put on trial
for her murder.
Reflecting on that case, Tanner said,
"Eight years ago, the jury got
it right. O.J. was technically not eligible
to join our brotherhood due to no concrete
evidence of any infidelity, but we accepted
him anyway because he was accused of
killing Nicole [Brown Simpson]. And
besides, he beat his wife, which is
almost as bad as cheating on her."
Tanner is not the only one outraged
by the guilty verdict; The National
Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) has
thrown its weight behind the Peterson
legal team in the sentencing phase.
NAMBLA, while nominally not concerned
with adultery per se, says that Peterson
"is being persecuted for something
he probably didn't commit. Of course,
we would prefer it if he'd been cheating
on his wife with a twelve-year old boy,
as that would help his case, but such
are the facts." [Quote from NAMBLA
spokesman and RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie]
Peterson's sentencing phase, to be held
the week of November 22, is expected
to determine whether he will face life
imprisonment or the death penalty. Pro-adultery
forces are watching the court closely
to determine whether any anti-murder
or anti-adultery prejudices may influence
the jury's decision.
"We'll be there for Scott no matter
what," Tanner told this reporter.
"If Scott Peterson can go to jail
or die for murdering his wife, then
no one is safe. We think it's every
American man's right to cheat on, then
murder, their wives, if they just don't
want the burden anymore. Or if they
don't like fatties."
