British Question NASA Involvement In Beagle 2 Debacle

London - Beagle 2 was the little British probe that couldn’t. The high tech umbrella sized instrument was slated to land on the surface of Mars on December 25, but the project team has received no transmission from the probe as of yet, and tensions are beginning to rise between the European Space Agency and it’s American counterpart, NASA.

The crux of the strain lies in the recent landing of NASA’s Spirit Rover, a Martian probe that has garnered great success where the Beagle 2 program has yielded nothing but failure.

“I think the failure of the Beagle 2 can be placed solely on the devious Yanks at NASA,” said a representative from the European Space Agency.

British Interpretation Of
Spirit's Weapon System

“We believe that our probe landed on the surface of Mars successfully, but its radio signal was jammed by the Americans. After the Spirit Rover landed on the planet, its first order of business was destroying the Beagle 2 with a missile barrage.”

NASA representatives are shocked by the British accusations. “We have been working together in the spirit of exploration,” said a NASA spokesperson. “It saddens us to find out that the British are jealous of American ingenuity. I’ll never watch another James Bond film again.”

The Bush administration denies arming the Spirit Rover with an onboard weapons system, and calls the British accusations outrageous. They have proposed that the disappearance of Beagle 2 could be the result of terrorist activity, and have raised the Nation’s Alert Status to Fuchsia.
